Gauge Railway Numbering System

The Gauge Railway six-digit numbering system:

TGR 123456 or GAUG 123456

1 - the first digit represents the type of car:
"1" for boxcar,
"2" for covered hoppers,
"3" for open hoppers,
"4" for tank cars,
"5" for reefers,
"6" for flat cars,
"7" for gondolas,
"9" for all others including cabooses and MOW equipment.

2345 - the middle four digits would be individual member's id number - as noted by wolv elsewhere, this can be found by clicking on the member's name and then "View User Profile". Once you are viewing the member's profile, the number is at the end of the url at the top of your browser. (Note: If your number is longer - just use all of them - your "final" number will be longer than 6 digits)

6 - the last digit is for the car number for each individual, again allowing up to 10 of each type car for each individual. (0 through 9)

I'd further recommend "GAUG" as a reporting mark - not only is not currently being used, it doesn't look like it's ever been used (TGR, The Gauge Railway, is also likewise available, I just prefer the looks of GAUG).

Thus, if the first car I decorated was a boxcar, it would be
GAUG 103061

Indicating:
- boxcar
- my user id is #306
- it's the first boxcar I've decorated for The Gauge Railway.

This would much better reflect the prototypical way cars are numbered.

Font Style: Any font style or color are acceptable.

Color of car or engine: The car or engine should include Gauge Blue (Close to ford Blue) or at least a part of it should be Gauge Blue as shown in the Gauge Snow Plow thread.

Thats the one I've been using Mikey, for all the cars I did, for myself and others. TGR I used for cars with build dates(or guesstimated build date) from the 1900's to about 1965. Newer and modern I used GAUG for the reporting marks. Except for Ausien's Austraillian boxcar(van), I just added his Gauge ID to the side.

Should the reporting mark not end in "X", as in ADMX, GATX, etc.? My, admittedly very, limited understanding of the reporting marks system was that everyone except proper railroads (and the UP - I'm an EsPee fan) had to have an "X" as the last letter of their reporting mark, hence CSX using CSXT.

Or is this group classed as a proper railroad, or is it using the legendary modeller's licence.

Either way, I'll have couple of 50foot box cars painted and decalled next year.

Cool Idea, I have not did a freelance scheme but have 3 in mind they are the KCCC(Kentucky Coal and Container corp.), BFT(Buckeye Freight & Terminal) and MSUX(Michigan Saginaw Union Leasing) X is suppose to be on the end of rolling stock that is leased out to customers such as trailertrain which is TTX and so on.

I was unable to find my id number and am interested in doing a car for this forums railway sounds like fun Blue is my fav color and I drive a blue ford truck most of the time.

Well - since we changed servers - we all have really long numbers now.... Yours is: 36728

Just follow the rules above - your final number will be 7 digits long It's ok Can't wait to see what you do!!!!

Will probably go with the TGR reporting marks, on some cheap Battery Operated plastic boxcars from several partial sets I got dirt cheap from a store that was going out of business a few years back almost the same width and height as flyer but short length wise may put On30 or maybe S gauge trucks on them.

may do tiger stripes blue and white with black lettering.

Most of us used "Ford Blue"
