Default Hallo from Neckar Valley near Heidelberg /Germany

Hallo Friends,
My name is Michael. I live near Heidelberg/ Germany. I hope I find some new friends in this forum.
My interests in cardmodeling are space crafts, trucks and other stuff.
At the moment I built Greelts Saturn V first stage in 1/48 scale.

Hello Michael! Welcome to the forums!
I used to live in Kaiserslautern when I was a kid ( a very long time ago) so I remember Heidelberg. It was a very nice town that I enjoyed visiting.

I would love to see some of your work when you can get some pictures up on the forum!
I know that Saturn V is a huge project and a very nice model!

I know you will make lots of new friends here as we all love modeling too!
Build away, take lots of pictures, enjoy yourself, but most of all, have fun!
Again, welcome! I look forward to seeing you around the forums.

Russell

Welcome Michael,

I am just up the autobahn in Darmstadt. I do believe there is a group that meets in Mannheim, however I have yet to make it to a meeting.

Russell - Was you an Air Force brat? Ramstein/Vogelweh perhaps?

No, actually I am an Army Brat. My father was a weapons designer but I really don't know much about what he did.
I know he was the only one in the army on his design team, the rest were from Chrysler Corp. and he did the XM-1 and XM-60 among others.
He retired after 26 years from Aberdeen Proving Grounds where he pulled his last tour of duty after a year in Saudi Arabia with out us.
Our family lived in Germany three times during my father's career.
We were stationed at the Ramstein AF Base and yes we lived in Vogelweh all three times.
We were stationed there from 1961-1963 when my brother was born in Stuttgart.
Then I was born at Ft Carson Co and we then went back to Germany from about 67-70 and back to Co.
The last time we lived in Germany was from 75-79.
We lived in apartment buildings set up in a big circle with the schools across the main road from us.
Are you familiar with that area?

Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack your thread, Michael.
It has been many years since I have met someone familiar with that area.

That's really cool Texman!
I went to school at Kaiserslautern American Elementary and Jr/Sr High.

I used to walk to the aafes px and movie theater every weekend and catch the Saturday double feature matinée.
I was also a member of a club called the Road Runners and we walked/jog/ran many Kilometers all over Germany.
In total, I spent 9 years growing up in Germany.
It is one of the most beautiful countries I have been to.

You wouldn't happen to be in the military would you Texman or are you there for work as a civilian?

Michael:
I remember my trip to Heidelberg with great fondness ( as well as the Friedrichshafen Zeppelin Museum, where I found many nice card models.) Perhaps someday you can give us a report on the new card-modeling museum in Heidelberg.

Hello Dave,
I never go to visit the Heidelberg cardmodeling museum. You can see some pictures here in the Kartonbau.de-Forum.
