Ron
I've surfed around the site and watched and posted a bit ... I notice for the most part there seems to be about 38 - 45 active people and a few stragglers here and there ... usually looking for something specific, when they do enter ... I do like your formatt
So to the base question what kind of time span are you looking at?

Hi Square

I went through the hosting co.'s stats pages and had a good look at things.
The numbers I posted were accurate and in reality they have climbed somewhat since then. I agree with what you are saying...about 50 fairly to very active members and a whole whack of people sitting back and enjoying the show. As in most forum/bulletin boards and even IRC channels, this seems to hold true. We have to keep in mind the international flavour of our hobby and the age differences of the paper modeler. My generation was not exposed to computers at an early age and I'm only 42. It's only within the last few years that folks older than myself have been getting involved online. When I first came online and lurked on bbs's at a whopping 300 baud, I was shy as can be. It doesn't mean that I never gleaned the knowledge available or enjoyed watching the conversations go by. What I'm saying is that we have a very active audience regardless of the posts.

As it stands, we have 2.5 years remaining with this hosting package for *free*. It's only setbacks are the limitations on bandwidth and space. Believe it or not, we eat up just over 5 gigabytes of bandwidth every month with 5 being the magic number. Anything over 5 gigs costs money.
Our physical space is limited to 500 megabytes. In order to offer downloads, increase album sizes etc we need more of both.

Right now, I'm looking towards a premium membership portion of the site. I've had a few private messages suggesting this. With a premium membership there could possibly be exclusive downloads, permanent
email addresses, discounts on merchandise, added gallery space etc.
This way we are self supported and self governing without having to solicit
sponsorship or worry about time-frames. This will by no means interupt the regular site.

Any opinions are always welcome

Ron

thanx Ron
the info is what I needed ... I am planning on setting up my own private server within the next year ... and I have access to fiber optic connection so bandwidth wouldn't be a problem and as for space that shouldn't be a problem either
and by the way quit telling our age ... the girls think I'm younger than that
yea the good ole days of the C64 and 300 baud remember them well
Square

and by the way I do like this style better than all the e-mails from other sites ... especially with all the virus of today ... yes I know php hosting has its problems ... but I understand those better
was part of one with over a million people and had about 4500 very active members with alot of problematic ones to

Ron....Thanks for the info on the Dick Dastardly update. And guys..before the C64 and 300 baud modems, (which I still have, by the way) there were kludge boards and Kaypro's and etc.. DTL, TTL, wire wraping experiments...FUN, wasn't it. LOL
I believe I'll take *now* over *back then* any time! Have a good day!
