Default Dart Kitten revived?

Hell Gil, and others

Here's a Dart Kitten I couldn't keep from you:

The source is this page from Rod Bearden Aviation Photos.

I know it is not the aircraft under discussion here, but this thread was worth reviving, in one form or another. The engine looks suspiciously like the one used in Aeronca C2/C3s, doesn't it?

Default Absolutely Correct

High Leif,

You're becoming a great spotter! It is, according to Richard Riding (Ultralights, The Early British Classics, 1987), the Aeronca E-113-C (JAP J-99) a 1860 cc 40 hp maximum, twin opposed, air-cooled engine flown in the Aeronca C-3 (Aeronca 100), Currie Wot, Hillson Praga and the Luton La-4 Minor. The author doesn't list it's use in the engine section for the Dart Kitten but does list the JAP J-99 as the engine used in that airplane. Guess it's really difficult to find all the mistakes in a manuscript...,

Guess I'll have to revisit the Gordon Dove as it's mostly done and requires a bit more work to get it over the top. Would make a really interesting 1:87 scale model. Now how to tweeze those wheel pants into shape...,

Best regards, -Gil

JAPrestwich built the Aeronca engine for Light Aircraft Limited of Hanworth, who built the C-3 under license.

The Story of the British Light Aeroplane by Terence Boughton (1963) p.233 mentions that 3 Dart Kittens were built with JAP-Aeronca engines and that two were still in existence at press time
