Default 2006 International Paper Model Convention

Quote:
Hi All,
Here is the information on the convention again:

This year's Convention will again be held at the Days Hotel and Convention Center (after May 2006 The Crowne Plaza Hotel), 2200 Centerville Road, Herndon, VA over the weekend of 10/11 Nov. The hotel is located at exit 10 on the Dulles Toll Road (Rte 267). The hotel offers a free shuttle from Dulles Airport (2 mi away) or you can take a commercial shuttle from BWI or National Airport to Dulles and then call for a free pickup at Dulles.

The schedule is as follows:
Friday, 10 Nov - start setup of tables at approximately 7 PM; ice breaker sandwich buffet with beverages sponsored by H&B Precision Card Models 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM; continue setup until finished.
Saturday, 11 Nov - guest lectures 9 AM to 10AM (open only to those who have paid the convention fee); open to the general public (free admission) 10 AM until 6PM; social adjustment hour (cash bar) 6 PM until 7 PM; warm buffet with three entrées 7 PM until 8 PM; auction of donated paper model kits (to raise funds for 2007 convention) 8 PM until ??? - breakdown of tables will depend upon availability of room on Sunday.
Sunday, 12 Nov - possible group excursion (TBD)

The Convention Planning Committee has decided upon a flat rate for the convention of $95.00. This will get you one ticket to the Friday sandwich buffet, one eight ( foot table with two chairs and one ticket to the Saturday hot buffet. Additional tickets for either of the buffets can be purchased for spouse, friends or guests at a reduced rate: Friday sandwich buffet $19.00 and Saturday hot buffet $32.00.

Please send reservations and payment* to:
Peter Ansoff
7706 Bristow Drive
Annandale, VA 22003

*Make checks out to Peter Ansoff (with a note for IPMC 2006)

Room reservations: To facilitate the possibility of connecting the convention with a vacation trip to the area, we have coordinated room reservations ($79.00 per night for a single or double) for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Reservations should be made directly with the hotel. Their telephone number is (703) -471-6700 and fax is (703)-471-8284. Make certain that you mention the International Paper Modelers' Convention to receive this rate.

As of this date we have confirmed reservations from Thomas Pleiner (former designer for JF Schreiber and now with his own studio), AG Smith (of Dover Books fame), Roman Detyna (Digital Navy), several designers from Fiddler's Green and myself (H&B Precision Card Models) as confirmed attendees who have given me permission to use their names. In addition to that we have approximately a dozen of the regulars signed up (a few more are expected to let us know at the last moment) and about half a dozen new faces. I'm told that we still have a few display tables available and a number of reservations open for the Saturday Buffet. We have notified many of the local papers and hope that we will be able to top the several hundred general public visitors we had last year.

We hope that you are able to join us for this 10th anniversary of the initial convention in Dayton, OH in 1996. For those of you who can't, stay tuned for information concerning our web cast of the convention.

It would be great to go. Hopefully you can grab us a boat load of great pics.

I missed the local modeling show this weekend due to 4 projects I was unable to complete. Showing up with only 4 little models would have not been good without at the very least a 1:1 M41a Pulse Rifle on a wrecked ship panel with badging. Oh well ... hopefully Bluenoser made it.

I have a question about the IPM. I'd like to attend this year for the first time and register to support this event. Are the registered attendees and their displays all model-related businesses, or are some just amateur builders wanting to show off their stuff? If the latter is the case, I definitely qualify, and the proximity of the event to the Air and Space Museum Annex makes the whole trip even more attractive.

I have this file but have not built it......yet. I talked to someone at the show who knew of somebody going to use the model as a template to build it out of metal.

I called the convention hotel today, and was told that the block of rooms for the convention is already sold out.
