It's the XP-79 Ram Wing - crashed on its first flight in 1945. It was originally supposed to be rocket powered (MX324) but changed to twin jets because of problems with the rocket engine such as carrying corrosive liquids as fuel.

Man you gotta have respect for the poor test pilot. I read that short blurb about how they had to fly the thing and the offensive "stategy" of having to ram the other aircrafts wings with yours; my hats off to the people that gave their all testing some of these hairbrained schemes.

Yes he did!
But of course, this particular plane was a Northrop design, and Kelly was with Lockheed. Jack was the big proponent of flying wings.
