Exclamation File Sharing and File Requesting

Hi all,

With the recent surge in membership, and with some posts asking for models, and wanting to trade.

I want to take a few minutes to make clear my feelings on this.

I have no problem with someone asking for a model they might have missed because of a time limit or corrupted storage cd or a hard drive crash.

Nor do I have a problem with someone trying to collect all models of a particular designer.

But do not post any requests for trading, trading of models is looked down on this site, I have not said anything until today because I was hoping that the pack would teach the new ones(sorry, channeling the Dog Whisper)

There is a line from George Carlin, which I like, "Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it"

I mean with that, is if you want trade or request a model, do it out of view of my eye.

I read every post, so I know what is going on.

Just a little reminder to all.

Rick

So asking for recent and bypassed Trotskiy models is ok?

I have no idea how I missed some of them since I am religiously on that site almost every day. =X

Is it rude to offer a model that was free, but no longer available?

What I mean is, would the designer be offended or mad?

Maybe there is a reason the designer pulled the model...other than bandwidth issues?

I try to email them if I want to offer their model, but it is a judgement call if they do not reply.

Any feelings on this?

Theres an awkward question, if it 'was' free and is now not available, would still be free, if it was available?
Or would the copyright owner (Im talking starwars, back to the future, Aliens etc.etc) gain any sort of extra income from sales. If yes, should it still be passed round? if no, can it be passed on the QT or even openly?
Moderators?

Stev0, yes it is, but I want to prevent the whole "Me too" syndrome that occurs when someone asks for a file.

Phil/Kaz, if the model is not yours, technically no, but like Kaz says, anything on the QT, and out of my view, is fine, let your own moral compass guide you.

I have noticed that Shuniko has re-released his excellent models again, so no more asking for them, download them from his site, and show him that we as a group care

How about a model that was originally free, but is now a pay model. I have one in particular that has a corrupted page in the pdf. Would it be kosher to ask someone for a copy of just that page?

Please dont misunderstand me, I would never copy paid for files, its the unobtainable free ones that are my sticking point.

Thats a toughie sdk2knbk... was the free version unpainted, or a simpler version? I suppose if the person has a working page of the free version thats ok. If he had a paid for version, would it fit?
What a can of worms

I would say you should contact the creator/distributer of the model and ask for just the one page. If they say no, then its a no. If you get zero response then I would ask here since you likely just got blown off..... If you get yes, then you have made another friend!

Rick, I'm puzzled by this. If I have a model that I'm no longer interested in building, and someone else has a model that they are no longer interested in, and we want to trade, what's wrong with that?

I can clearly see the issue if it's a case of exchanging copies of the models, but if it's a straight trade with no one keeping copies, there is no harm done to the vendor.

Is it possible for the forum to have a section dedicated to swapping and trading. There could be a couple of moderators watching the area and I am sure that members would also keep an eye out for anything illegal.
