Some time ago, I can remember when everyone wanted a Spitfire. Now they are all over the place. I also remember when World War I era planes were hard to come by. Not so today. Designers do respond to customer demand, so I've decided to start campaigning for something I want--new issue cold war jets.
The last NEW modern jet produced by GPM was the F-15E Strike Eagle (169) in 2000. The last jet of any kind was the Me 262 (186) in 2004. GPM is up to model 264. They rerelease jets on occassion (recently the Corsair II and F-15 Strike Eagle), but nothing NEW. Halinski released a slew of jets from 1999 (F-16) to 2002 (F-15), but nothing since. The Halinski F-16, F-14, Tornado, and F-15 set the standard for what I want! Maly Modelarz releases a jet here and there, recently an F-14, and especially Russian aircraft. Modelik threw out some single engine Soviet jets in 2004 and 2005, and an F/A-18 in 2006. Orlik just gave us a Goblin (early experimental jet), but not much else. Fly Model throws out the jets I want fairly often. They gave us a BAC Lightning (146) a few years back, which is great. More recent jets include the Su-34 (141), a Mig 21 (127), and F-117 (124). Older Fly Model kits are not up to the standard I want. Hobby Model actually threw out a lot of jets I want, but most are out of print. Further, Hobby Model kits often seem to receive bad reviews. Regardless, most of the planes I want are not in print right now. So then, I want Cold War NATO jets! Not from Geli! (No offense to the designers at Geli, but they do not produce kits with the level of detail and graphic presentation I want.) Some examples: A-3 Skywarrior: Nothing. A-4 Skyhawk: Fly Model did one, in fact 001. Obviously dated. Modelart is about to release one. Yay! I believe there have been others, but nothing in print right this second. A-5 Vigilante: Nothing! Gak! I really want this one. A-6 Intruder: GPM has one, but it's a bit dated. They also have a Prowler. I'd love to see new ones, but I can live with these. A-7 Corsair: GPM just rereleased theirs...in the same livery as the original. Note to all card model manufacturers: Rerelease old models in new livery with modern graphics and I will buy them again. Otherwise, you are just selling to people who missed out the first time around, which is what eBay is for. A-10: Maly Modelarz did one with potential, but no landing gear bays and skimpy detail. The Fly Model offering is frankly terrible. We need a new, detailed one. A-37 Dragonfly: Nothing here. Move along. F-1 Fury: No soup for you. F-2 Banshee: No soup for you. F-3 Demon: No soup for you. F-4 Phantom: GPM did two (good models), Halinski did one (haven't seen), and there are others. I've okay here. F-5: Maly Modelarz did one, but it appears dated. F-6 Skyray: No soup for you. F-7 Cutlass: Hobby model did one but it's long gone. F-8 Crusader: Hobby Model did one, but reviews indicated problems. It's out of print anyway. I really want a modern model of this one. F-9 Panther: No soup for you. F-14: They are all over the place. How come every designer has to do the same thing? Diversify! The Halinski offering is excellent and the best so far. The Maly offering looks good, but I have yet to build it. F-15: Halinski offers an excellent model. GPM offers an F-15E. Modelart offers C and E models in multiple liveries (all companies should do this). I'm happy with my options here. Move along, please. F-16: Halinski offers an excellent model. I'm okay here. F-18: Modelik just did a very nice looking Super Hornet. Halinski's older offering is okay. There are others. I'm okay here. F-80 Shooting Star: Oh where, oh where could my shooting star be.... F-84 Thunderjet: Not a thing. F-86 Sabre: Fly Model did one last century. It's out of print. This plane was the aerial backbone for one side through an entire war, and we have ZERO models of it. Huh? F-94 Starfire: Nada. F-100 Super Sabre: Kampfflieger did one with a lot of potential, but in the wrong scale (1:50). F-101 Voodoo: No soup for you. F-102 Delta Dagger: No soup for you. F-104 Starfighter: GPM did two last century. Kampflieger did one with potential, in the wrong scale (1:50). F-105 Thunderchief: Fly Model did one, but it's not up to modern standards. It's out of print. Hobby Model did one but it's long gone. F-106 Delta Dart: No soup for you. F-111 Aardvark: Fly Model makes one with good detail but poor graphics. It needs recoloring by a good artist. SR-71: Fly Model does one, but it is very old and dated. Hobby Model also had one. We need a new one in 1:33! Alpha Jet: Hobby Model did one but it's long gone. English Electric Canberra: No joy. Gloster Javelin: Nothing. Hawker Siddley Buccanneer: No signs of life here. This is a really cool plane, too. Mirage: Does anyone make any of the many cold war Mirage fighters? Anyone? Class? Panavia Tornado: GPM did one but it needs improvement. Halinski did an excellent one, still in print. Fly Model and Hobby Model also released specimens. I'm good here. Saab Draken: Fly Model did a decent one, but it needs updating to modern standards and a new paint scheme (since I already built the old one). Hobby Model did one too, but it's long gone. Saab Viggen: Fly Model did one, but it's out of print. I believe it also needs a graphics overhaul and new livery (for people who built the old one). Hobby Model did one too, but it's long gone. Sepecat Jaguar: Hobby Model did one, but it's long gone. The Fly Model offering is very dated and needs _much_ improvement. I know I've skipped over many, many Cold War NATO jets, and I apologize if I missed someone's special favorite, but my point stands: jets are underrepresented in the high end, 1:33 scale card model world. Please release more jets! And please start with a new F-105 Thunderchief, f-8 Crusader, F-100 Super Sabre, and A-5 Vigilante. And if you sneak in a high end, 1:33 scale Arado E555 New York Bomber, which has nothing to do with the rest of this message, I will say really, really nice things about you. Thank you and have a great day. -Doug

I just want to add some remarks since I'm a great fan of modern jets:
A-4 Skyhawk: GPM outdated and some errors, but hopefully the ModelArt plane comes also in American colors! Blue Angels? GPM; PModel 1/50 A-5 Vigilante: I agree - the only Vigilante is made by Geli. A-10: Two by Maly, ony by Fly, one by Geli (with simple but existing wheel bays!) - there are more important planes to be constructed. Fly maly build F-5: Maly F-5 shows no good fit. The Geli F-5 is quite good but this is definitely a model which needs improvement! F-7 Cutlass: The Cutlass from Wilhelmshavener (1/50) is very good and can be purchased easily. Inconvenient: 1/50 scale but simple to scan and increase size. F-8 Crusader: Also available from Wilhelmshavener (1/50). Great kit, allows to build 2 versions. F-14: 4x by Halinski, 1x by Maly, 1x by Fly Model, 1x by ModelCard (same construction as the one from Fly but different coating) - more than enough for the moment. F-15: F-15C by Halinski, F-15C/ E from GPM, F-15E by Fly, 2x by ModelArt, 2x by Hobby Model - no high priority F-86 Sabre: Fly kit is okay, nevertheless there is much left to be done! F-94 Starfire: simple kit from Wilhelmshavener (1/50) F-100 Super Sabre: Simple kit by Wilhelmshavener (1/50), Geli. Needs new kit F-101 Voodoo: Very good kit by Wilhelmshavener (1/50); also negatives from Variant. F-104 Starfighter: Wilhelmshavener has a very good one (1/50), GPM and Geli are okay, Kampfflieger, Hobby Model is rather simple, also Schreiber (very rare) GPM & WHV builds F-106 Delta Dart: Only available from Geli, bad color. State of the art kit needed! F-111 Aardvark: Fly Model is okay, very bad kit from GPM available. SR-71: Hobby Model had never a SR-71. Betexa has one in 1/72. Kit from Fly is okay - simple but fit is okay. English Electric Canberra: Available from Schreiber (very rare) - state of the art kit needed! Gloster Javelin: Extremely simple kit from Wilhelmshavener Hawker Siddley Buccanneer: Needed urgently! Mirage: Mirage III by Geli & Wilhelmshavener; Mirage 2000 by Fly and Maly. Fly is okay (detialing) but color is, err - challenging ![]() Saab Viggen: 2x Hobby Model, very good kit from Wilehlmshavener, Fly is okay. WHV build; presentation: WHV Fly Hobby |

Don't forget the PModel offerings, they have some good details, no cockpits but easily borrowed from other kits and enlargeable. They have a Great F-5 with a cockpit, gear wells, medium level detail, about modelik/mid GPM class. Their A10 is on the list to borrow the Maly cockpit for. GPM made 2 A4s both the same parts but updated colors that were pretty neat, OOP though. PModels A4s are pretty good. The Fly 105 is pretty good, a bit overengineered but do-able. Some of the Hobby Model kits OOP but obtainable, all seem to be mostly designed by left handed Monkeys with Palsy, great subjects very bad fits, ie F22, F8, F4E, Su series, and the Hawk, all favourites but disappointing. I'll get my rear in gear with Dr Zarkov's A4 design, an awesome kit! Needs the MER/TERs for the era it operated in but awesome kit. I'm with you with the cold warriors, I lean towards the Navy birds, but the USAF and Nato birds are cool too. I think Jan Mueller from the German site was designing a Panther or Cougar, andM Sanger was working on an FJ-1 Fury also, no word on them yet. I'll second 3rd etc your plea though, bring on more Korean-Cold war aircraft, Designers!

This is a good model (I just bought it) and I encourage the designer to continue bringing out novel Cold War subjects. However, I want even more detail (engine parts, compressor blades, moveable control surfaces, wing tanks, more detail in the cockpit, more advanced coloring) and will pay for it. Quote:

My only disagreement is with the Wilhelmshavener offerings. They are generally well engineered models, and generally look good, but they are in the wrong scale and lack the coloring and detail I want. I am looking for models in 1:32 or 1:33 scale, with details like those in the most recent Halinski F-16C, F-14A, Tornado, and F-15C. That is to say, I want State of the Art jet kits. I am so tired prop thingys. I have reached prop thingy overload. -Doug (who is now getting off the computer to work on yet another prop thingy)
