here are my two cabooses:

A cruddy shot of my TYCO caboose. this thing seems to have some kinda green gunk on it's plastic wheels (playdough?), and the couplers are truck mounted too, so I'll need to completley refurbish this guy

P2K sentered steel cuppola, CNW. This was my first caboose, and has survived far more than it was intended to do (it survived one of my sister's friends' clumsy hands!).

I love this thread. Seriously, you guys are some really talented people. Great looking cabins!! Here is a pic of some of my cabins. Please forgive my lack of track or scenery. I am trying to sell my house and hopefully I will have a large unfinished basement soon. You guys know that I have already claimed said basement for my HO layout.


You will see the top row is cabins (ahem, cabooses...) of the "enemy"... LOL... a couple of Chessie Northeasters and an I-12 waiting to be built. Next row is a Potomac Line N-5 and 2 PRR electrified territory pool cabins... lastly 2 N5C cabins. While they both carry the same number (for now) the left one is a Trix, the right is a Marklin modified with new wheelsets and Kadees.

Ralph, it's all good! I was previously a Conrail fan. Actually there will always be a soft spot in my heart for Big Blue. To me, CR was just a new Pennsy, and PC was the ill-fated attempt at PRR eating up the NYC

Anyway my hat is off to anyone who models PC, the most neglected RR (by modelers) in my opinion.

Here's my favorite caboose...although it is a prototype...I have a couple models in the infancy stages of construction...awaiting the recovery of my lost notebook which contains what a possibly the most complete set of drawings ever made of a caboose.

NKP 141 started off her life in the 1880s (most likely...no records exist until the 1900's). She was a 4-wheel bobber. She was lengthened around 1910. She became an NKP caboose when the NKP acquired the LE&W...Lake Erie & Western. She was in a park in Ft. Wayne, Indiana prior to being rescued by the Ft. Wayne Railroad Historical Society. During the original restoration of the 765 in the 1970s, the Ohio members of the crew (Gary Bensman & my father) would stay in the 141. It then fell into this shape in the 1980s & '90s prior to their 3 wooden cars being moved into their building.

Here's why I like her:
1) You can still see the scab marks where she was lengthened.
2) The open interior is unlike any other caboose I've ever seen...no cabinets beneath the cupola
3) The nice NKP paint scheme
4) Having crawled all over her with a tape measure

Here's a couple of pics of the "flagship" of the LC&P. It's a drover caboose kit from Ye Ol' Huff & Puff...It was originally built with interior lighting but the flickering lights were just too much, so now it rides in the dark...
