Default Ads

Ad's suck and slow down my viewing of the forum. I especially hate the ones with moving graphics, I'm sure to see them because they are the first thing to load on the page and the thread comes up 30 seconds later. I suppose I understand the need to pay for the forum and all - but it's pretty intrusive right now...

Weird, they started showing up right under the whole row of 'User Cp / FAQ / Members List / etc' - on every page that I go to...

New for me too. I dont mind them so long as they keep the forum going. I dont notice any delay at all. At work they are blocked and I dont see them.

I hope you all will understand. I can't afford to foot the bill all myself anymore. We're getting over 5,000 people visiting every day now. It cost a few hundred a month just to keep the site going. I'm trying out some new ads. Personally, I think these are better than the ones I had a couple months back on the side. It's only a couple days in, though, so I want to give it some time and see how it does. And, I'm trying to work out something for the people who would like to support the site but not see ads. Thanks for understanding!

Peter,

Ads are not the problem per se its just intrusive slow down a guy's system ads. The placed ads on Google do not tend to slow down my system, that's the way to go...

Subscriptions. I guess it was coming! Paypal is at the ready.

Google ads were only bringing in about $.50 a day. I like them better too, but they don't pay the bills.

My turn to apologize and I hereby do so. While absolutely understanding the circumstances and certainly not wanting to force Peter into bankrupcy, I just hate that it's come to this point. As I said previously, it was to be expected because of the huge growth on the site. As "they" say, "This ain't a problem; this here's a situation!" A good situation. I've cast my vote. This is a great site and I'll do whatever I can to keep it going.

You're doing a great job Peter. Again, sorry for the gripe.

I see the ads now... I use an alternate view of the forum because of the link I have. They are not so bad as long as their content is proper. I have seen worse... like illegal game content on an online game site.

there's a lil secret about most banner ads...

nearly all of them come from a very short list of addresses, if you add those addresses to your block list in you browsers settings, you will just see the empty white box with the red X in it...

even tho you never see the ad, the page's host still gets credit for the ad being sent to you as well!!!

check it out!

Edit: you can usually sniff out the ads sender by lookin at the "Waiting for:www.abc.com" tag line, etc.

I see them now too. There not offensive they do make things a bit sluggish (I am still using an old "slow" wifi router).

If they pays for the fun I am quite happy.
