Default HOn3 Diesel Model

I'm considering combining a kit onto a MP15 Chassis offered by atlas. The original kit calls for an Athearn SW1500 donor chassis. does any one know if these locos close in length-wise size?

I like to use the Atlas MP15 chassis because it already would have sound/dcc equipped models RTR.

Here is the kit picture below..

I can't remember the exact difference in feet, and inches, but the MP15 wheelbase, and therefore, chassis is about two scale feel longer than the SW1500. To use the MP15, you will have to lengthen the kit body, either by extending the frame, or by adding an extension to the carbody.

You sure that's HOn3 and not On30? That superstructure looks kinda large for HO scale.

So, if you're going to make it On3, you're going to have to widen the stance. It's fairly easy to do with the older Athearn locos - not sure you'll be able to do it with the Atlas trucks, though.

Unless you're going On30, then there's no modding required.
