I want more models. But my wife is getting mad. Six dollars here, nine dollars there- soon she says we are spending “real money”. So I was thinking, “How can I get more models but not spend more money?”
Then the answer came: “People on this forum have too many models”... Don't believe me? Just ask your wife! ![]() And then I thought...I have a rolling mill. I can emboss paper. Look at what I can make for you: I can make paper that will add a whole new dimension of realism to your models! Right now I can make embossed squares, and embossed diamonds. Look at these squares. Doesn't this look like a tile floor? This is paper...you won't be cheating ![]() Is there anything you can use this paper for in the model you are building? What about the diamonds? I think this could do model airplane tires very well! What about decking for locomotives? Construction equipment? Industrial machinery? I'm sure there are lots of applications for this texture that would enhance your model! If you want some, just tell me! Bruce@avantcard.biz Here's what I'll do: Email me your mailing address. I'll send you six pieces of embossed card. Each piece is 1.25” by 7”. That is over 50 square inches of embossed card. The card is thick mat board; the same board that picture framers use to frame paintings and photographs. The mat board is dense, 1/32 inch thick and can be used as is. But it can also be split easily. You can peel off the surface layer and then you have thin paper. Or you can split off thicker sections. I can give you black, white, gray, tan, brown, green, red, blue, yellow. If you need another color, tell me and I'll let you know if I can do it. Tell me what card you want. If you don't tell me a specific shape or size I'll send you a variety. Squares: Large squares are 5/64 inch. That would be about 6.8” in HO scale, close to 4” in O scale. That would be reasonable for floor tiles. Small squares are 3/64 inch. Which makes them 4” in HO scale. Good for wall tiles. Diamonds: Large Diamonds are 11 to the inch long-wise. That would be about 3” diamonds in 1/33 scale. That would be believable for 1/33 aircraft tires. Small diamonds are about 15 to the inch. That would be about right for 3” diamond decking in O scale for locomotives or construction equipment. Here's your part: When you get your embossed card, please select a good model from your collection, pack it well, and mail it to me. What are you going to send me? I don't know. I like surprises! I like aircraft, armor, ships, almost anything. It just needs to be unbuilt and in good shape. When I get the model I'll call the trade even. Need more textured paper? Send more models and tell me what you want! Simple and fun. Now that I know that I can do this, I will continue to look for other patterns I can emboss to make your models more realistic and lifelike! I will keep posting additions to what I can send you. I hope some of you like the idea...I want more models! Cheers! Bruce |

If you can recreate the Zimmerat pattern used on German tanks. People will be keen to perhaps send you the kit to emboss and a kit for yourself.

Thank you for the suggestion. I think I could come up with a good zimmerat embossing. The problem is that I have a narrow rolling mill, so what I emboss must be 3 inches or less wide.
I will think about how I might overcome this problem for particular models... Cheers! Bruce |
