So. You're going to strip it down to bare metal, then paint it over?

I'm going to strip any part, or area that has rust down to bare metal, then prime it and paint it. It's the only way to get rid of rust. Rust can sit under paint for years and spread across the metal and you wont know it until a chunk falls out.

Well, I've been working on the Galaxies, but boy has it been a pain. I've got to get one of the bays open for one of these guys. I'm tired of waiting on the rain to stop... I've got a real good deal from a guy that wants to buy one of my 58 Chevy Apaches. He wants to pay me cash for one and do some body work! How can I pass up a deal like that?

He wants to trade me for the short bed, step side, on the right. I'm thinking that's fine with me. I've still got one and I can get some body work for free. I'm going have him haul up the third Galaxy, not pictured, as well.

I'll have some more pics today. It's been a busy week.

Here we go.... got a lot done recently, even with the rain.

Pulled the four barrel Carbeurator off of the White Galaxy, started stripping it down...

Cleaned up the interior....still needs work.

Took me days to get part of the trunk where I wanted it, then I had to hurry up and tape, primer and paint the area I had worked on, because rain was on the way.

Same with the door....

More to come.....

Got the Carb rebuilt and back on the car.....
Click for movie.

Unfortunately an OEM part that was made of nylon, or plastic broke, so I'm going to have to super glue it, mold it and cast it and come up with my own part. Still have to make some minor, external adjustments, but should have it lined out easily.

I don't know where that high pitched sound is coming from in the beginning of the video, I'm just not hearing that when the car's running....???? Love the deep throughty sound from the rear of the car though. I'm going to have to pull the right exhaust pipe down, I guess the guy that owned it last backed over something.

While I was sitting here waiting for my supplies to arrive I decided to not waste the time and do a little work on the Galaxy. If you ever want to do any body work on your car, or restoration job, I highly recommend getting one of these, a Ryobi Orbital Sander. Really does the work. Stripper is great, but this gets right down in the metal!

The right front fender looked a lot like the left rear quarter....

,but after 10 minutes work...

I love car rebuilds. It's a long time since I had the energy to do one.

Just remember what you said earlier in this thread:

After the paint-job, make sure to be ready to protect it with a load of whacks. Well, something like that.

After the paint job, I'll be putting several coats of clear coat and will be waxing it every 3-6 months.

I found the pictures of what the red one looked like after I painted it, I'll have to get those up later.

The axe-handle and Samurai Sword are just for morons. I would never use and axe-handle on my baby, but I have thought of it.
