Default Building the "Man Cave." :D

I've had several different properties over the years and never had a garage on any one of them, except a rental property that I couldn't use, so when we bought the new place a couple of years ago, part of the purchasing incentive for me was the fact that it had a pole barn that I could turn into a garage. I sat through the first Winter figuring out exactly what I was going to do to it and came up with a combination. I wanted a gym, a bar, a shop and a model shop, so what you're going to see is the creation of my dream shop! Whoot!

The fascade and doors were already hung, but we put up the roof.

The first thing I had to do was check out it's structural integrity, then I had to start stripping it apart.

There's my 65 Galaxy, check out the other thread.

Look at all of that horrible tin, what junk. Had to go.

I started putting up the interior wall, then did the exterior, because I wanted to make sure that I had clear paths for my wire runs.

The biggest pain was roughing in the steel door with safety window. Whomever did the frame work was a putz. I had a 2X6X20 that was twisted like a pretzel.

I've done a lot of work since last year, more to come.

After much work, we got up to the second story. There's nothing like having to haul your supplies and materials up a second floor, in August. Whew!

This was while I was baking in the August heat. LOL

since I just bought another Galaxy to restore, I had two tons of gravel brought in. they wanted as much to spread it out as they did to deliver it, so I've been doing it myself with a wheel barrel and a shovel and rake. I'll be dipped in duck butter, if I'm going to pay someone else to do what I can do, besides, I love doing "Real Man Work." You know, the stuff that gets your heart pumping and blood flowing? I know I can use it, helps get rid of the winter gut.

Second story. We got he second story started over the Winter, but had to stop because of the cold. It takes way to much to heat the garage as is and waaaay to long to get it warm So this is where I'm picking back up.

Looking up through the floor joists.

I've actually got the floor down now and the runners on the stairs. I made my rise and run short because of my bad legs.

More progress on the "Man Cave." Whoot!

Here's a pretty clear photo on the steps we took to insulate the garage. Believe me, I do NOT want to spend another cold winter working on this thing.

When we got the exterior wall up and the siding, we put up r-13 insulation, a vapor seal and the interior wall. This was done after we ran the wire for the electrical set up. I'm running a 100 amp service with 110v and 220v, for various appliances. Got to have the hal barrel cooler.

Looking back on the wall, for one of the earlier shots.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-52.jpg

I built a small room in the back, just for storing stuff and for modeling, when it's cold.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-53.jpg

As you can see, I can close off and entire wall and be as warm as a bug in a rug with this setup. I can also cool it with a small window air conditioner, without using to much power.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-54.jpg

The "semi" finished stairs. I've got a little storage area, for the little room. I'll probably put the half barrel cooler back here.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-55.jpg

I'm finishing up the electrical now....
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-56.jpg

I used the left over plastic from the vapor seal, to segregate the two bays, for two reasons. I can close off one bay when it's to cold, or to hot and I can use one bay as a paint booth.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-57.jpg

Looking back along the second bay. You know, it's amazing how much crap two people can collect in 30years.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-58.jpg

Looking down from the second story. that is an antique park bench I've been restoring.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-59.jpg

The second story. Jeez, it's amazing how much.... Some of this stuff is from the three businesses we had at Union Station, St. Louis. This brings me to a point. I've worked in several businesses and have owned more than one, but I have never seen anything more corrupt and cut throaght than the Sci-Fi Garage kit community. My God!
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-60.jpg

Looking down the stairs.....
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...-Garage-61.jpg

This is my "Detroit Locker" 9" rear end, that's going on my 65 Galaxy. I can't wait to get the body work done. WHOOT!

Inside the little room. I've got access to the stairs, a back wall door and boatloads of shelves.

I'm hoping to convince her to have one just for the garage.

As for persona; information, you'll have to drop me a line.

Got some more work on the "Man Cave" unfortunately I had to hurry up amd push everything back in, until the rain stops.

Got the floor laid on the left side of the garage..., but had to fill it back up with....junk...!
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...u/Garage41.jpg

Same thing with the bottom... Cleared everything out and got to work on the back and side wall, but had to shove everything back in for the rain. Will it ever stop!?!?!?!

No, that wouldn't do me any good, because I'd be too tired to do anything more after 12 hours.

Mark
Believe me, I take days off, I have to. I just work on what I can, when I can. If I can't work outside, I work inside, if I can't work on one project, I work on another. If I run out of supplies on one thing, I got to another. It's pretty much constant. I do burn myself out at times though. I used to work full time, manage an apartment building, work on cars in my spare time, all while setting up another property. My Mother used to call me "The Blur." I multitask a lot and use my time wisely. I'm might seem like I'm on the board a lot, but I'm not really. I've got three computers and one is a laptop with Y-Fi. So, about the only time I'm really online is when I take time to sit down. LOL! I think the Navy had a lot to do with it. I was on a ship that was turning and burning 24/7. After which, when I went to the University I went to a time management class. My problem is that I get to many things going at once.

Well, I don't know if it would be worth a flight. LOL. Most of what you see is either antiques in need of restoration, restaurant stuff and chick stuff. The rest of it is supplies and stuff for the garage. The generator, tools and workout equipment, as well as the half barrel cooler are all staying! When I get the interior done I'm taking to home theater equipment out of the house and putting it in the garage.

Not really garage stuff, but applicable, in a can't get what I need to done wort of way. The lil woman has been home for a couple of days, so we've been landscaping again.

We've been planting trees, shrubs and flowers and landscaping the place. I bought the trees for her for Christmas and we are just not getting them in the ground. Beside that I've been working on the Galaxy... Anyway, feast your eyes on my labor. Now I can get back to work on the "Man Cave" and the Galaxy! Although, we do have to put down some top-soil and plant new grass. It never ends. God I love home ownership!

Thank you Gentlemen... These are some shelves I got from a Gas Station that was going out of business.

My wife said "Those would make great plant shelves" So I had to ask "do you want them sweetheart?"

GEEZ! It took two days worth of work to get the shelves in the garage.

I've decided that I'm going to stop having ideas!
