Default Photo challenge for April-May 08

About a month ago I announced that we would have a new photo contest, or challenge (whatever you'd feel more comfortable calling it), Starting April 1st. Well, I was a bit under the weather at that time and so I got a bit behind in my chores. So let's get one going now.

The challenge: SHOW US YOUR RAILFAN PICTURES.

Here are the guidelines:
  • You can post any railfan picture that you took. We're assuming here that the picture will be of something on a full-scale railroad, an engine, a car, a consist, a depot, a bridge, a water or coaling tower or.... well, you get the idea.
  • You can post up to five photos, all of the same subject or of different subjects.
  • When it becomes time to vote, we will ask everyone to judge the group of photos that you submit, not individual ones. So if you only submit one, that's the one that gets judged, submit five and the get judged all together.
  • If you post less than five pictures, you can always go back and edit your post and add more pictures. If you're not happy with ones that you've already posted, you can delete them or replace them with others. You can do that right up until this challenge is closed.
  • All we ask is that the pictures have been taken by the person submitting them.
  • Post your pictures here in this thread. You can upload them or link to them in our Gallery or anywhere off-site that allows you to do that.
  • The contest will remain open for all of April and May and will end on May 31.
  • The three to get the highest vote will be sent a Gauge e-certificate that can be printed out in color on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper.
Looking forward to seeing lots of fine pictures.

Some of my favourite shots:

A trio of Canadian National (pre CN!) GE Dash 8-40C's smoke their way eastbound into the dawn at Paris Ontario:

Trying to get all artistic-like by shooting an Eastbound CP freight coming up out of the Windsor tunnel from Detroit at Windsor South station:

An Eastbound intermodal train rolls through London Ontario on a cold winter afternoon:

A crumbling outside-braced boxcar I found behind an old dairy in Ontario:

And a pile 'o rail I thought looked neat:

I hope you like them.

Almost right in my own back yard, one of the Minnesota Commercial RR's mixed collection of locomotives cruises through the weeds and is about to cross the diamond in New Brighton MN.

And another shot as it goes by...

The only place I have seen them made is in brass, sure would be nice to see someone make one though.

Default A journey by steam train

In march '08 I have done a very nice trip to Czech Republic and I rode a steam powered excursion train pulled by Czech railway mountain class 475. A really nice day.

Evening and goodbye.
