Default Grumman XF5F-1 Skyrocket

Starting a new build, The Grumman Skyrocket from Karton Militaria
The kit looks nicely detailed, silver printing, interiour, the big radial engines are also detailed, they even put in a little sheet of plastic film for the cockpit windows. The kit is Polish, but has german text, and it has some clear drawings..
cheers, Billy

I'm ready to enjoy another great X-Plane build thread by Billy

Where do you get the kit? Maybe I can order one.

Regards
Alcides

Not a fan of how this plane looks, but I'll enjoy seeing you put it together

I always enjoy watching a build and also what interest others. As far as the pane itself it is an "interesting" design. Looks lik they forgot to incorporate the fueselage to the wing and cut a slot in the front and fastened it on. i don't know if they were originally trying for the "Flying Wing" approach and ended up sticking the partial fuselage on due to a lack of aerodynamic performance.

Any way model on pal, I will watch as you do so.

Here is the inside of he wing, and I've noticed a clever feature, the formers are double, so you don't need tabs, but then you have to place the formers very precise..

Here's the first part of the wing, it fits very well..
IMHU when a kit is designed well and parts ( even if there are a zillion of them) fit as well , it makes it an 'easy' model, the hard ones are the models where you have to correct all the small mistakes in the design..
Cheers, Billy

Bill,

Looking good. Very interesting subject.
I like the way the designer handled the nose with just a few sections.
I've seen other designs of this plane wherethe nose is made up of a large number of "feathered" points, They allow for a very gentle curves but are incredibly fiddly and creat too many joins, in my opinion.
your model looks nice and neat.

Oh, no. Thanks for the data billy but order from moduni es too expensive to me. They charge 25 euros for shipping and this is too much for me.

Anyway very nice start, very clean.

Alcides,

Fiddler's Green has a version of the Skyrocket that is a purchase and download.
The nose looks difficult to build on the FG version but you can always print out a new piece 'till you're happy with your result.

'Fastest Pursuit', Grumman Skyrocket XF5F/Black Hawk-downloadable cardmodel

$3.95 US for 2 sizes, one of the sizes in several versions.

I have the Fiddlersgreen version too, and jagolden is right.. It's a bargain compared with this one, but as we say in Holland; you can't compare apples with pears
The FG has also the"Blackhawk"version, pretty cool, Blackhawk was a cartoon back in the 1940ties, much like the "Thunderbirds" a couple of decades later, but they flew the Skyrocket, and made the plane well known

I like this one. Although it doesn't have the silver print, it is digital and for $5.75 it builds real nice.

Toddlea,

Forgot about that one. How is the nose formed on that design?
The plane is so wild but I don't think I could ever handle the FG nose design.
