I've taken the bit between my teeth and actually started a build!

It's small because its only about 1.25" / 30mm high by 0.25" / 6mm wide.

However, it's about 2ft. / 600mm long!

It's a micro-scale diorama.

Anyone care to guess the subject.

For wrong answers, score both sides to middle.

Correct answer wins 10 free e-beers!

Hint - the original is world-famous.

Well, it's not a real competition, so here's my first draft of my first part:

- and the RAF, and the various Scottish heritage web sites - and many photographers. Oh, yes - and the original designer!

The groundwork is still being worked on. Very detailed pixel manipulation, on a ground that will be about 20" long (wide?) when done.

Yes, my major source was Google Earth, but it's not a screen shot, more a fuzzy rendition of bits of various shots. A straightforward bit of plagiarism would not work. (unfortunately ) The further north you look, the more the satellites are looking down at an angle, and the greater the distortions.

I'll post some progress pics when I have more time. For now, I will just describe the method. Using a grid, I distorted and pasted bits of image so as to make all parts of the scene fall on a single line of constant track width. I then sprayed and overlaid the bridge.

And now its gone.

Here's three pictures of a quick mock-up at half scale.
(I mean half the size of the final model - I'm not looking for a battle with city hall over planning permissions!)

I've used a cut-out template to show the "perspective scale" effect. The final model will be "see-through."

Sorry for the poor picture quality - indoors by tungsten with flash + autofocus or nothing = blur!

This build is on a 'go-slow' while I focus more on competition #3:

Interesting idea. French loco on French bridge in micro-perspective scale.
