eBay Does It Again

I don't use e-bay either, but it looks to me that a lot of sellers, the one's with ebay stores, complained a lot about being given so many negative feedbacks(I'm sure some buyers are mixed in there too).
What e-bay should be doing instead of implementing new policy is ask these sellers "Well...Why are you getting so many negative feedbacks?"

E-bay charges for listing, for final value and their "sister" company Paypal charges for monies received....

So you see... without charging a fair shipping + hidden fee.. Note I said "Fair" fee... there is no possible way to make money unless you charge the buyer for shipping, Insurance, packaging, and those "Hidden fees"

I think the operative word here is "hidden"....if the seller is up front about ALL charges, then the burden is on the buyer if they bid. What irrated me (I quit Ebay years ago) was getting emails from sellers with up to 50% more charges for "handling". Paypal is just a cost of doing business in my opinion and should be on the seller, not the buyer. I think that sellers who are not up front with those "hidden" charges are trying to get into your wallet...shame on them...

Can Sellers actually use negative feedback anyway?

I mean buyers can decide not to buy from one or two really harsh recent negative feedbacks, but can a seller reject a bid because he sees a comment that the guy is a deadbeat?

Absolutely! When we list something for sale or auction there is a selection:

Block buyers who:

* Have a feedback score equal to or lower than -1
* Have received 2 Unpaid Item strikes in the last 30 days

These are adjustable but these are the "average" settings....

If you have a SquareTrade account you might want to consider cancelling it, since eBay will no longer accept their mediation services (re) feedback removal, in line with their new policy.

I don't recall how long I have been using eBay both as a buyer and seller. I sell far more than I buy though.
In my auction listings I am up front with my handling charges. I am also up front about my feedback policy. If a buyer of one of my items is prompt to make payment, they get positive feedback before I even ship the item. It goes on to say that I will not be blackmailed by feedback. I have had a few try, but my feedback remains 100% positive at a 181 rating.
I also state clearly that I don't do returns or refunds.
I think that my days of using eBay are done though. There is no system of checks and balances left. It is now a Caveat Venditor (Let the Seller Beware) environment. I understand Ron's points, and do not disagree with him, but as a seller, where is my protection?

A number of people I interact with about model railroading say they're spend more money at shows and less on eBay recently because by time they factor in shipping on their eBay purchases they typically would be paying more. eBay used to be a great marketplace but it doesn't seem to be as much so anymore. I wonder what their earnings will look like at the end of the year?

Yeah! fleabay charges both ends towards the middle and then delaypal charges you for handling your fleabay money. In holding up transfers for 10 days, they earn interest on money cleared same-day by the banks.

Given that ebay owns paypal and each arm of the corporation has you by a leg, it seems to me that they must have a majority of shares in Recursive Functions and Algorithmic Complexity Inc.

Either that, or someone is hard of hearing and confuses anti-trust with their aunties trust-fund.

The annual income, I estimate roughly as USD 10^87.

sellers leave feedback when payment recd!
that was the way evilbay sed it should be done in the early days, then it went to hell with their power sellers, who with a quantanty of dubious products, decided to only leave feedback after the buyer did!
As an aside evilbay is trying to bring in (in Oz at present but will follow world wide) payment by palpal only, cash on pickup is still ok. Hopefully the ACCC will kill this restraint of trade.
